'C**ksmith' makes fantasy-themed sex toys and lube aimed at Furry fandom

A self-confessed "c**ksmith" who makes erotic toys for members of the Furry fandom said members of the community should be more open about their sexual desires.

In a Real Stories documentary about Furries on YouTube, the CEO of Bad Dragon revealed a whole host of products offered by the company to meet the needs of the community. Jan, who goes by his Furry name, Varka explained the American manufacturer of "fantasty-themed toys" makes anthropomorphic representations all kinds of creatures including rabbits, werewolves and dragons.

The Furry fandom is made up of people who express an interest in animals with human qualities. The trend began in the 1980s but has since boomed worldwide, with members spurred by the love of animals like those in Disney movies and video games.

But addressing controversial fetish claims within the Furry community, Jan said: "The human condition of where we're at in terms of accepting adult things in our lives, is kind of depressing.

"I hate to say it but particularly in America, this was stuff that was the foundation of religion. It is stuff to do with what is a social accepted norm? What are things that are considered good or bad?

"And I don't think that masturbation should ever be an acceptable dinner table conversation ever, because everybody should have standards and I think that's very important to emphasise. Any community needs standards and there has to be certain topics that are not on the table.

"But at the same time, I feel like people should be confident enough with themselves and with their close knit group of friends to be able to be honest with themselves about what they really want."

A Furry named Freya says in the documentary that Bad Dragon was banned from selling its merchandise at Anthrocon - the largest Furry convention in the US.

Anthrocon CEO Samuel Conway, who is a Furry himself by the name of Uncle Kage, has long tried to protect the reputation of the community's members and separate the Furries from reputational damage.

The documentary shared snippets of him adamantly persuading other Furries to proceed with caution when speaking to the media and expressed his outrage at those who have publicly shared the sexual elements of the subculture.

Like with any community, there are "extremes" at both ends of the scale - and not all members had the same mindset and experience.

But Varka adds: "There's a really interesting dichotomy in the Furry community because on one hand, you have a lot of people who are comfortable with themselves and their interests and to each other, it's accepted and understood.

"And then, whenever media gets involved, everyone's terrified and I think it's a mistake for Furries to try and hide behind: 'Oh I don't want anything to do with the media because they might expose me to be a pervert.'

"Everybody's a pervert in some way."

He added: "What does it say about you if you're afraid to stand up for what you believe in?...The Furry fandom has a long way to go in terms of accepting itself."
