January Jones’ fans and followers are sending her messages of support in August 2023 after she shared the heartbreaking news that her friend, George Kolasa, has passed away. The Mad Men star’s late friend was a fashion marketing executive who worked with major industry brands during his career including Ralph Lauren.
People commenting on January’s tribute post sent messages of condolence, and some wrote that George was “a fighter until the end.” The movie star referred to her late friend as “beautiful,” and shared a black and white photograph of them together on her Instagram.
January Jones pays tribute to George Kolasa
Taking to Instagram on August 10, January Jones wrote: “Rest in peace beautiful,” and tagged her late friend, George.
Many of January’s fans wrote comments on her post to say that they were sorry for her loss.
One commented after the heartbreaking news: “Wonderful picture January. Condolences to you and so sorry for the loss of your friend.”
Another said: “May his memory be a blessing,” and more said that George was a “wonderful man with a kind soul.”
Who was George Kolasa?
George Kolasa was a marketing executive who worked with big names in the fashion industry during his career.
He worked with luxury brands including Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger.
Following his untimely death, George leaves behind his husband, Justin Tarquinio, who is also a marketing professional.
Justin became George’s carer during his illness.
Speaking of his husband, Justin said: “One of the reasons I fell in love with him is because he sees the best in everyone and everything.”
How did January Jones’ friend die?
In February 2022, January Jones’ friend, George Kolasa, was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer called glioblastoma.
The disease impacted George’s ability to speak and walk and he explained the difficulty he found with this while documenting his cancer journey.
Speaking during “Chapter 1” of his story, George said that he’d say to himself: “Be strong George,” as he battled the disease.
George was treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering. George said of the MSK nurses: “They see you,” adding that he was “in the right place,” there.
At 57 years old, George passed away on August 9, 2023.
Many of his friends, including Bravo’s celebrity star Andy Cohen took to social media to pay tribute to him.
Andy’s post includes the words:
“George Kolasa passed away today after an inspiring battle with glioblastoma. Inspiring may seem like an odd word choice, but George was so at peace with himself and what was to be – dare I say he found whatever joy he could out of something decidedly UNjoyful… But that was who George was. The love he shared with his husband Justin lifted up all who knew them… I’ll see you on the flip side, brother.”
